National Pawnbrokers Association announces the election of 2019 president and Charles R. Jones Lifetime Achievement Award Honoree at NPA’s annual convention and trade show, Pawn Expo

Southlake, TX – The National Pawnbrokers Association (NPA) is proud to announce the results of the 2019 annual election to select a new NPA president. The association has announced that Kerry Rainey, who has served as NPA’s Secretary for the last two years, will take on the role of NPA President in the upcoming 2019-2020 term.

Additionally, the NPA is proud to award Mr. Rainey with its highest honor, the Charles R. Jones Lifetime Achievement Award. Mr. Rainey accepted the award at the NPA Annual Awards Luncheon. The Charles R. Jones Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes individuals who, through their outstanding leadership and efforts, have gone above and beyond to make a significant and lasting impact on the pawn industry over the course of their pawnbroking career. Honorees are regarded by their peers as leaders in the industry and recognized as such, nationally.

Mr. Rainey is the owner of Bayou Pawn & Jewelry, with three locations located in Louisiana. He is a 2nd generation pawnbroker and is an experienced jeweler with 30 years on the bench. He has served as the chair of the NPA Pawn Expo Convention Committee, and two consecutive terms as the association’s Secretary before being elected as NPA president in 2019. He has been a member of the Louisiana Pawnbrokers Association for 24 years, and has served as vice president, president, and currently treasurer. Mr. Rainey has dedicated countless hours supporting the NPA through involvement in government relations, charitable giving, mentoring, and leadership to the pawn industry.

“The NPA is the most important organization in the U.S. that supports and protects the pawn industry. I am proud to be a member, president, and to have received the NPA’s highest honor, the Charles R. Jones Lifetime Achievement Award.” Mr. Rainey encourages pawnbrokers to get more involved with the NPA as a member, on a committee, or through the NPA Board of Directors. He cites the NPA as a source of education and support which has helped him grow his business.

“Over the years, not only have I learned a great deal from my work with the NPA, but by being involved in the NPA government relations activities, I have helped defend our industry and my business. I will strive to protect, build, and further develop the NPA to ensure future generations of pawnbrokers can benefit from it, as I have.” Mr. Rainey has been married to his wife, Sharman, for 31 years and has three sons.

History of the Charles R. Jones Lifetime Achievement Award:

Charles R. Jones served two terms as NPA President and considered the members of the Association his extended family. He traveled around the country to get to know pawnbrokers on a more personal level, learning as much as he could about their needs and concerns.

In recognition of his efforts on behalf of the pawn industry, Charles received the NPA Lifetime Achievement Award in June of 1997. Sadly, Charles passed away in October of that same year. His history of service and devotion to the industry was further honored by changing the name of this award to the Charles R. Jones Lifetime Achievement Award, which has been awarded over the years to pawnbrokers who have exemplified a similar devotion to the NPA and the needs of its membership.

The elections results and award were announced at Pawn Expo 2019, the only national convention and trade show for the pawn industry, which was held at The Mirage in Las Vegas.
